“Experience the joy of pulling weeds and hand releasing plants” - Shirley Potter

We would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone who has a few spare hours to join the ‘Wednesday Weeders’ crew who help care for our plants at Tauranga-Taupō.

The weeders meet every Wednesday from 9am-12pm at the end of Tuki Street, Tauranga-Taupō and work in the Oruatua Recreation Reserve.

There are loads of weeds this year, so any extra hands to help Shirley, Mark, Rosie, Alison and Helen would be greatly appreciated!!

Many of you have kindly helped with our community planting days, but not all have experienced the joy of pulling weeds and hand releasing plants.

13 March 2023 - Possum central

16 March 2023 - Fleabane knocked back!

Our current jobs are fleabane removal and clearing convolvulus from strangling our plants, they just need to be disconnected from the ground and we will release spray the next day.

Smoko stop is around 10.30am (which is accompanied with the daily quiz) so bring a thermos of tea/coffee along with sunblock, a hat, water and gloves (Shirley has spares if needed). There may be some blackberry so don’t wear your best clothes.

Family Christmas entertainment. Marco the youngest (6yrs) recently wrote a story at school - "I went to pull out the plants because the plant was covering it and it’s bad for the plants. They won’t get sunlight so that’s why we pulled out those plants”. Nice one Marco!
